A REPUTATION TO BE PROUD OF.
The contention that the balancing of the Budget was in itself sufficient^ to justify the Government's taxation proposals was strongly supported by the Minister of Lands (the Hon. E. A. Eansom) when he spoke on the Finance Bill in the House of Bepresentativos last night.' The' highest financial authorities, said Mr. Eansom, regarded unfavourably those countries which failed to recognise the necessity for balancing their Budgets. From time to time members of the House, particularly members of tho Beform Party, had referred to the wondorful credit of New Zealand on the Home market, and the favourable outlook towards the Dominion in respect to loans. Surely, he said; we should be jealous of that reputation, and of the great advantage we derived from being able to laise our loans at the best possible prices.
