MAORI PASSES
LINK WITH WAIBAU MASSACRE

The death, occurred on Saturday night at the Wairau Pa of, Mr. Alfred Rore, after a comparatively short illness.
Hapareta Eore was by descent an important rangatira. The family history ■was closely interwoven with the history of the Wairau. Mr. Eore's grandfather on his mother's side was Captain Blenkinsoppj whose alleged purchase of the Wairau Plain at the price of a spiked cannon "was commonly regarded as leading up to the Wairau massacre.
The late Mr. Bore "was 67 years old, and was the last male representative of his family. A man of keen intellect and a ready speaker, he represented his people with dignity, ability, and eloquence. He was for three years ehainnan of the Maori Council for Marlborongh and Nelson, chairman of the Maori Drainage Board, and chairman of the Wairau Pa School Committee. He was for many years an owner and. trainer, of .racehorses, but in later years he had given up the sport.
