The Department of Agriculture has received the' following cablegram, dated 16th August, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— Tallow.—Spot market remains steady with fair demand at auction, 1250 packages being offered and 751 sold. Present quotations are:—Mutton: .Fine 31s, fair to good 27s to 295, dark to dull 2os to 265. Beef: Sweet and/or mixed 29a to 355, fail" to good 26s to 28s' 6d, dark to dull' 23s 6d to 255. Mixed: Fair to good 26s to 28s, dark to dull 23s 6d to 255. Gut, etc., 22s 6d to 265. ■ ' . <J Apples.—Market very dull. Current prices for New Zealand: Stunners 7s to 10s; Delicious, 6s to 11s, condition variable; Dougherty, 9s to 11s. American, Graven'stein 8s 6d to' 9s. English apples in increasing quantity are selling cheaply. Hemp.—Manila market easier, but fair business has been done. "K." grade August-October shipment sold middle of this week at £21 15s, and at the end of week down to £21. Output of Manila from Bth January to 4th August 837,000 bales, against 965,000 for same period last year. Stocks in Manila on 31st July, 140,000 bales, against 187,000 at same time last year. Stocks in England 19,491 bales*, against 13,285 same time last year. Sisal: African easier owing to the absence of trade support. At the close No. 1 good marks August-October shipments quoted sellers £22 15s, fair average <iuahtjr£22 ss. Mexican Co-operative Sold 220,000 bale's to America, shipment from August to June at equivalent of £23 10s c.i.f, Europe. New Zealand: Market continues dull and depressed. No first-hand sales reported. , . '; -, Wool—Bradford market quiet. Crossbred tops moving in small weights with prices slightly in favour of buyer*. Present quotations for tops are: 56s Is 7d, 40's prepared, Is 2%d; others unchanged.
