DAMAGE NOT KNOWN
Until more detailed messages are reiftived, the manner iv which the loss «£ her starboard propeller led to such furious damage to the Tahiti must reinain a matter of conjecture, for this «ame mishap has befallen many ghips nt sea, without disaster following. 'A quite possible theory has been advanced by an Auckland engineer, as set out in a telegraphic message published below, that ei+her the propeller or the twisted, broken shaft has rent the Itull, or the water ballast compartments, so great an inrush of water following that the pumps were unable to cope with it, till, late on Saturday night, the pressure had forced an engineroom bulkhead, so serious a development that it became apparent that the ship would have to ho abandoned.
