MATSON LINER VENTURA
The Matson line's steamer Ventura, on to which the Tahiti's passengers have been transhipped, was en route from Pago Pago, Samoa, to Honolulu when she received the call for assistance. She left Sydney on 9th August for San. Francisco, via Suva, Pago Pago, and Honolulu, and sailed from Pago Pago on Friday afternoon.
She is a twin-screw passenger steamer of 5986 tons gross, and was built at Philadelphia in 1900. Her dimensions are: Length, 400£t; breadth, 50.2 ft; depth, 26ft. ' She burns oil fuel and has a speed of 17 knots.
