MELROSE AFFAIRS
A special meeting of the Mqlrosc Eatopaycrs' aud Electors' Association was held last week. Mr. ■C. G, Palmer presided over an exoellent attendance.. Several members of the Haughton Valley Association'were present by invitation. A 'letter was received from the Town Clerk stating that a supply of metal would be made available for the low level footpoth in Ilornsey road. The Chief Postmaster stated in reply *to a request that the Department could not at present erect a pillar bos at the junction of Hornsey road and Dnnedin terrace, but would do po as soon, as the population warranted tlio expense. The alteration to the bus timetable as well as the terminus was then, discussed. The majority of those present expressed themselves against the proposed alterations, much dissatisfaction being felt at the bus running only to John street, this especially inconveniencing the workers, who were the most regular patrons of the bus, It was ultimately decided that a deputation wait on the tramway authorities in an endeavour to .secure through buses for the transport of the workers to and from business. The arranging of the deputation "was left in the control of the president. An opportunity of discussing the Betterment Bill as it is being sent forward at present by tho City Council was then given and fully availed of by those present. The action of some councillors, in moving for the rescinding of the decision to send the bill forward to the House was approved, and a motion protesting against the autocratic powers contained in the Bill, also against the personnel of the proposed Assessment Board was carried unanimously An invitation to attend the ne*t meet ing of the Hawghton Valley Progressive Association in order to discuss if possible ■united: acton in securing a better bus time-table was accepted. •
