QUESTION OF FOOTPATHS BEQUESTS TO COUNCIL. : ' The' monthly . executive.". committee meeting of the Lyall Bay Progressive Association was held in tho residence of Mr. H. Q. Bruce, Freyberg' street The president (Mr. J. H. BurgoyneThomas) presided. ...,,_-... Mr. W. F. Sherwood reported on the interview that he and Mr. A. C. Blake had had with the City Council Works Committee, seeking various improvements in the district. He stated that a letter had been received; from the Town Clerk in reply to the deputation stating that the continuation of the footpath from Cruickshank street in Queen's Drivo to Freyberg street would be included in the- estimates for the current financial year. The repaira to all footpaths would be carried out in systematic order. The City -Engineer, had reported that the high-level footpath in Tavistock road had been completed, and there was no money, available for any further improvements to Buckingham street. ....... It was decided to ask-the District Engineer to attend tho association's next meeting, if possible,, as .the replies regarding the last two matters were not considered satisfactory. ■ ■;. It was also resolved.to ; bring-under the notico of tho engineering- -department the hold-up of the footpath construction on tho south side.-. >.of?' "Wha street, and to request its completion. The request for re-conditioning of tho turf in Palm avenue having been' declined by tho Reserves Committee on account of lack'of finance, it was decided to ascertain'the exact position in regard to the upkeep of th© turf. The Town' Clerk also advised that the splaying back of'the corner of Wellington and Crawford roads could not be carried out, as there was no money available, either on the Unemployment Belief Works Schedule, or the current estimates. The secretary reported, however, that since the receipt of the letter, the work had been put in hand, as the spoil was required for filling in the dump on the opposite corner, which was being levelled off and planted. Regarding beach improvements, it was stated that any provision made by the Reserves Committee", in its estimates, had been struck out when reviewed by the Finance Committee of the City Council. It was decided to appoint a deputation to wait upon the council. Mr. A. H. Smith stressed the danger to school children rushing through the right-of-way from Freyberg street to Palm avenue, owing to the increased motor traffic, and it was decided to ask the City Council to erect rails at each end. ■ '" The secretary was requested to obtain the conditions governing the airport at EongotaL Mr. W. B. Williamson was extended a hearty welcome by the president, on his appointment as a member of the executive. • . Tho association's organiser (Mr. W. IV Sherwood) stated that an - appeal would shortly be made to residents for membership, and the meeting expressed the wish that strong support would be forthcoming to aid in securing the urgont wants of the district. A donation of £2 2s was voted to the School Committee.
