AURORA BOREALIS
SMALL BUT GOOD No horse has yet succeeded in winning the Grand National Steeplechase and Grand National Hurdle Kace in the same season. As the feat has been attempted by some great performers, it is obvious that it is very difficult. This week, little Aurora Borealis made an attempt to create a record. She won; the Grand National Steeplechase and finished second to Carinthia in the big hurdle event. While the performances of Aurora Borealis were good at Riccarton this week, it would appear that the weakness of the opposition favoured her, For her size, Aurora Borealis *■ is a remarkably good one, but as she is now rising in the weights, and will always he penalised through lack of size, her future contracts will be difficult. Most of our best " 'chasers" had size, a very necessary feature for that class of racing, but it is evident that what Aurora Borealis lacks in weight is in a degree balanced by her great courage and cleverness. For her inches and weight Aurora Bor.ealis is the best " 'chaser " this Dominion has produced.
