TWEEDS AT RICCARTON
HATS WITH GENEROUS BKIMS
Although .-the weather was fine at Riccarton on Thursday, for the, Canter-' bury Jockey Club's Meeting, a cold easterly wind made coats a necessity (states the Christehurch "Press").
Encouraged by the mildness of the morning, many women wore, with their tailored suits, straw or straw and felt hats, gay in colour' and generous in brims. Spots of various sizes and colours appeared on hats; and checks, flecks, and spots patterned a great majority of suitings and coatings.
Great interest was occasioned by the fact that Their Excellencies Lord and Lady Bledisloe were to attend. the meeting. Punctually at 12.45 the strains of the National Anthem announced their arrival at the entrance to the lawn, where they were received by Mr. H. A. Knight, chairman of the club, and Mrs. Knight, and Mr. and Mrs. George Gould, and conducted to the Vice-Segal box. •» Their Excellencies were accompanied by Lieutenant J. C. Elworthy, R.N. , ;
Lady Bledisloe wore a beautiful ensemble, with frock of honey-beige crepe de chine, with parchment lace collar and jabot, and cloth coat to match, with voluminous beige fur collar and cuffs. Her small felt hat of the same shade was upturned in front, and caught with a brilliant ornament.
Mrs. H. A. Knight, wife of the chairman, wore a blue, .brown, and grey flecked tweed suit, navy blue straw and felt hat.
Mrs. George Gould wore a black ponyskin coat, with grey squirrel collar and cuffs,- over a black charmalaine dress trimmed with eire braid, black hatter's plush hat, wiih ornaments of brilliants'.
