ENGINEER'S CLOSE ESTIMATE

Wellington's floating dock is to cost £196,125, which is £125 above the consulting engineer's estimate. Tho dock has to be delivered in Wellington by March, 1932.

"The Harbour Board, having considered twelve tenders received through its consulting engineers, Messrs. Clark and Staridfield, of London, decided to accept the- tender of Messrs. .Swan, Hunter, and Wigham Richardson, Ltd., Wallseud shipyard, Wallscnd-on-Tyne," said Mr. J. \V. M'Ewan, chairman of the Wellington Harbour Board, to a "Post" reporter to-day. Tho successful tenderers are ttid builders of the Singapore dock. , Tho general dimensions of the proposed dock are? —Net lifting power, 17,000 tons; overall lengths over platforms, 584 feet; length of dock over Sontoons, 527 feet; overall width of ock, 117 ft 6in; clear width between fenders, 88 feet; draught of water over keel blocks, 26 feet; lifting time, 10,000 tons in two hours; provision is also made for future lengthening by a further 73 feet. "Under the contract just signed, the dock has to be completed and ready to sail in 114 months from commencement of the work, and delivery has to be given in March, 1932," said Mr. M'Ewan. The estimated time of towage to New Zealand, for which the contractor is responsible, is six months.

Six other tenders, ranging from £219,900 to .£281,000, were received from the following firms: —
