(Eeceived 15th August, I p.m.) WASHINGTON, 14th August. At the outset of the conference with President Hoover, the State Governors requested financial credit facilities for the drought-stricken States. Credit, they said, would be the most urgent noed of the suffering sections.

CHICAGO, 14th August. Bainfall saturated wide areas of the Central,' West, and South to-day, saving the remnants of the crops in Kentucky, Tennessee, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. Washington received its first rain since the spring, while the Central aud th« Northern and Eastern sea coast are awaiting rainfall due to-night.
