KARORI S.O.S. CONCERT

An enjoyable concert arranged for Uio relief of a distressed family of nine children was held in the Marsden College Hall on Wednesday evening, before a very large and appreciative audience. Each item was of a very high order, and there was a continual demand for encores, lue instrumental part of the programme was in the hands of Mrs. G. F. Holloway (violinst), Messrs. C. Saul and S. Seaton, pupils of Miss Mildred Kenny (guitar duet), arid Misses Jean and Gladys M'Leod (pianoforte duet). Mr. Will Bishop provided the humour at the piano, and Messrs. Johnuie Watchman and Cliurlio Moore gave impersonations of the "Two Black Crows," and appeared later with Messrs. Roberts and Jenkins and Mrs. E. 0. Chapman in a sketch, "The Village Tailors.". Mrs._ Chapman was also heard in elocutionary items. The vocalists included Mrs. Dargaville (contralto), Mrs. E. S. Allwright (soprano), Mr.. Frank Bryant (tenor), Mr. W. W. Marshall (baas), and the Melodic Four. Mr. and Mrs. Allwright sang a duet. Through the courtesy of Mr. Joe Knowsley, Miss Nancy Flett gave two dance numbers. Mr. G. F. Hollaway was at the piano, and Mr. Stan Philpott was stage manager. Sweets provided by the firms of Cadbury and Aulsebrooks and ladies in Karori were sold by little girls in costume. The trustee of the fund is the Rev. F. M. Kempthornc.
