(Received 15th August, 11 a.m.)

VANCOUVER, 14th August,

The Illinois State Attorney announced that Paul Montgomery, a local aviator, had confessed that he piloted the aeroplane which dropped nine bombs on workers going to the Providence coal mine on Monday, and also named two men who helped him 'to make the flight. Montgomery added that the men threatened to kill him if he did not carry out the bombing.

The police later arrested Montgomery and James Malone, aviators, and five miners on charges of a bomb attack on Providence intended to cripple mine properties. In the meantime, a fire, which the officials declare incendiary, in revenge for these arrests, destroyed the Providence Coal Company's premises, with a total loss of £10,000.

A message published on Wednesday stated that two airmen in a. monoplane bombed the coal mining area around Providence, Kentucky, where strikes had tied up properties since April. Nine bombs loaded with dynamite and charged with iron slugs were dropped. Only two exploded. There wore no casualties, although one exploded perilously near a group of workmen. Intense excitement followed the visit of the unknown aeroplane, which departed northward. The crashing of the bombs could be heard for miles, and threw the town into an uproar.
