EASY ROUTE TO DEGREES
LONDON, Ist August. The extraordinarily high standard displayed "by a large number of candidates in the B.A. examination at tho Sorbonne, says the Paris correspondent of "Tho Times," occasioned Press allegations that venal professors had informed richer students of the questions. Articles wore published urging a reorganisation of the examination system.
Investigation disclosed that the day before the examination, thu rector of the University was called on the telephone, ostensibly by the Prefect of Police, who demanded to know the exact questions set, but refused to give reasons. The rector, not remembering Daudet's escape from Sante prison through a hoax, in 1927, fell into the trap, but the student, ingenious and daring enough to think of and carry out the ruse, Jacked the discretion to keep his knowledge to himself. He broadcasted the questions to 'his friends, who. told others. Thii led to suspicion and detection.
