HUMAN KINDNESS

(To the Editor.) , Sir, —I would greatly appreciate the courtesy of your valuable columns through which to express our very heartfelt gratitude for the wonderful response made by a wide public to our appeal on behalf of the "ship-wrecked family" at Karori. Th« appeal was voiced largely through the publicity given the splendid benefit concert arranged by Mr. S. Duncan for Wednesday last, and attracted a wide interest and attention. A big audience filled the Assembly Hall at Marsden School, many people refusing to accept change when paying the entrance fee, large quantities of clothing, food, and firing, and many blankets have been received, and many have sent through the mail to me sum* of money, a list of which I append below; the concert will realise a sum of about £3J in addition, this through the generosity of all concerned in giving so freely of their services.

Our thanks are due to Messrs. lunes and M'Gregor and the T.P.R. Printing Co. for free printing, to Mr. T. Edwards and Mrs. Burrow for artistic posters, to Sir., Pell and Mr. Brown for free cartage, to Messrs. Pinney for the offer of a piano, to Messrs. AuTsebrook and Co. and Messrs. Cadbury's, Ltd., for gifts of confectionery, to' the Board of Governors and the staff of Marsden School for the free use of the School Assembly Hall, to the artists who supplied the excellent programme, and to the donors of many gifts of money and kind, and tn many others. These all through their kindness contributed to the great success of the appeal. It has indeed been a most encouraging experience to realise what » great fund of human kindness there is im the heart of the community. Finally, Sir, please accept our best thanks for free advertising space in your columns for launch* ing the effort.—For the commitee,
