TARANAKI MATCH

(By Telegraph.—-Press Association.)

STRATFORD, This Day. Taranaki defeated North Auckland at Stratford yesterday by 24 points to 9, in a rather poor game. Speculative kicking was rife, and the. tackling was not all it should have been in representative football. The backs simply could not get going. , /' Scrappy play marked the opening stages, and things were dull, with North Auckland breakaways swamping all attempts at back movements. When the packs warmed to their work brighter football was witnessed. The second spell was better, and the -last twenty minutes good enough to please the crowd. 'Taranaki's success was due to good defence and the speed of the backs. Tho visitors were superior in the forwards. ' , • . -
