LEAGUE OF MOTHERS

SEATOUN MEETING

There was a largo gathering at Seatoun yesterday afternoon at tho monthly meeting of the local branch of the League of Mothers. Mrs.-Hogg was in the chair. At the outset of the meeting, aftor; the league hymn had . been sung, M!rs, Hogg proposed and* Mrs. Wrigley seconded a resolution of sincere condolence with the relatives of! the late Mrs. Frederick Black, of Seatoun, who) passed away recently. A tribute was paid to her work for the league and other social services, with deep persbnal regret At her loss. The motion was passed, all standing in silence. Mrs. Henry Hadfleld was the speaker for the afternoon, and received a cordial welcome. She spoke interestingly; of many branches of women's work in Sydney, where she had lived for. sieveral years. Mrs. Hadfield touched on the work for the blind people, the Prince Albert Hospital, of tho Countrywomen's Association, for the soldiers"fand sailors' dependants, and for invalid1 men. Some details were given of tbe fine work of the women police of Sydney, and of the well-known "Smith Family," whose service to the poor and distressed is outstanding even in a city that numbers millions of inhabitants. Mrs. lladfield told of the Federation of "Women Voters, and of the work dome for prisoners, both men and women. A few words wero given in conclusion about the after-care of the children from tho special classes in New Zealand, and Mrs. Hadfield asked all to bo interested in this fine work in their midst, uaentioning that a "cookery calendar "would be available later in aid of the funds of tho association. It was hoped 1» bo able to take a seaside cottage in the holidays for some of the children, witjh a competent caretaker. Mrs. Kpdfield was accorded a cordial; vote of thanks on the motion of Mrs. Gyles Tkiruer, and an excellent afternoon tea was served and a social time spent. Mr«. Turner (president^ of tho Wadestown branch) sang, giving much pleasure. Beautiful flowers decorated the hall, aipd these, according to custom, were takipn to various invalids arid members who could not _ attend. Three new members were admitted.
