AUCKLAND, This Day.
Someplain speaking was indulged in last evening at a special meeting of the Auckland Harbour Bridge. Association, which terminated in the resignation of the president, Mr. B. H. Groville, who has occupied the oflice for the, last, three years. There was a large attendance, aud Mr. Greville presided at the outset. "As my conduct is being questioned this evening, I ask that the meeting appoint its chairman," said Mr. Greville, who suggested that for the good of the cause, they should settle their differences in committee. Mr. J. B. Tonar was elected chairman, and ruled that as it was a general meeting the proceedings were open. In accordance with notice of motion, Mr. T. C. Pow moved: "That this meeting, having lost all confidence in Mr. Greville, he be called upon to resign immediately from his position as president of the Auckland Harbour Bridge Association." As throe speakers, Messrs. Pow, C. H. Wills (seconder of the motion), and Grevillc (in reply), occupied nearly two and three-quarter hours, Mr. Tonar applied the closure, and after reviewing what had been said, put the motion, which was carried by 24 votes to B.
"I am prepared to take defeat like a man, but I may say no man has donp more for tho bridge," said Mr. Greville. "Tho question is one more of policy than lack of confidence." '.';.
