S.A. WAR VETERANS
WELLDTOTOX ASSOCIATION
The monthly meeting of the Executive Committee of the Wellington branch of the _ South African War Veterans' Association was held last week. The president (Major P. E. de B. Brandon) presided; there were also present Messrs. J. J. Goldsmith (secretary), J. ,J. Clark (treasurer), R. J. Aldrich, C. F. Bishop, T. W. Brown, B. C. Cull, J. Francis, S. Harland. T. G. Murdoch, F, Plaster, W. T. 0. Wortlcy, arid E. M. Woolley.
The president welcomed two now members of the executive, Messrs. R. J. Aidrich (ex 18th Hussars), and T. W. Brown (ex Ist Contingent). He stated that the membership of the local branch was steadily increasing, and it now occupied first placo in the Dominion in respect of its roll number.
The secretary of the Wellington Hospital Board wrote that he had made arrangements for the association to be notified immediately a S.A. veteran was admitted to the institution.
On the motion of the president, the following remits were carried for presentation at the Dominion Conference:— That, the Wellington branch of tho S.A. War Veterans' Association suggest that the1 financial year o£ the Dominion headquarters and all branch associations should close on the 31st March of each year; that a flair of the colours of the ribbon of the Queen's S.A. medal be procured by <sach branch association, and be carried at the head of every unit when on parade. : . ■
Tho treasurer reported that 116 members had paid their subscriptions, and 124 members' were in arrears. It was decided to circularise the latter.
Tho following membci's wore elected:— Captain G. Leonard, Messrs. M. M'Gavin, and J. A. Waller.
The resignation of Mr. W. Alderson, official collector, was received with regret, and it was decided to send him a letter of appreciation for past services. Mr. Jas. Conn was elected to the vacancy. _ It was stated that the Dominion executive had declined to share with the local branch the cost of entertaining visiting delegates to the annual conference in Wellington, and it was vesolved that ihe Wellington branch entertain tho visitors at a luncheon.
The secretary was requested to Write to the Dominion executive in connection with the arrangements to be made for the visit of General' Lord Baden-Powell to New Zealand next February.
Regret was, expressed at the illness of Major J. T. Watson, secretary of the R.S.A., and it wag decided to convey the executive's good wishes for his recovery.
