MILLEN A WELL-KNOWN HORSEMAN

' I-leiiry John Millen, the Pakuranga farmer wlio shot his wife at Howick on Saturday morning" and afterwards committed suicide, by shooting himself, was a well-known horseman, and some years ago was expert as a buckjumpcr. He served in Egypt with the Auckland Mounted Rifles during the war, when he held the rank of quartorinastersergeant. He was wounded on active service. Both he and his wife wero well liked in the Pakuranga district,, .and those who know him best say .that he was very jealous of her. ■ ■:■•.-..
Mrs. Milieu had been trying to:got a separation order from hor husband. The case came up at the Magistrate's Court at Auckland on Friday, but was adjourned. Millcn hvas in comfortable financial tireumstanccs, and was looked upon as ;t prosperous farmer. :. . ■ News of tho tragedy caused a sensation at Ho wick, and during..the ..morning there woro numbers of inquisitive visitors to the scene of the tragedy. Millen is well known in local trotting circles, and for somo years has raced horses. His best performer was the trotter Lord Roberts.
