CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS

(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") DUNEDIN, This Day. The Otago athletic centre has not yet officially considered the New Zealand cross-country course, but several officials who have been approached maintain that it should fully test the best of New Zealand's cross-country men. The course at Wellington is fairly flat, but the country is well varied, including plenty of gorse, bog, and grass land, while in all there are something like thirty-two fences to be negotiated for two rounds. There is a steep hill about the middle of each round, which the report states will try the very best of hill climbers, and which it is regarded as unlikely many will be able to take at a run. I

The Otago team will be selected after the provincial championship next week, and should be a solid combination. It is likely there will be more than seventy starters in the Otago provincial championships, and the fight for the six places in the Otago team is likely to be very keen, with J. J. Morri9 and J. G. Barnes probably the hardest to beat for. the individual championship. 8. Anderson, a promising young Leith runner, will be a strong contender for a place in the Otago team, and others will be J. TV. Tapp, A. Mann, J. H. M'Laren, E. J. Johnston, and J. Logan, all of whom- have represented Otago in the past. M'Laren is the type of runner likely to spring a surprise in the Otago fihampinnfihip.
