LADIES' HOCKEY

MAORI TEAMS MEET.

Maori ladies' teams ; representing the Wellington and Wairarapa Hockey Associations met at Newtown Park yesterday afternoon, the visitors emerging the victors after a bright and interesting game by 3 goals to 2. Misses IV and-R. O'Donnell, K. Walker, and L. Smallman, of Wellington, were the only pakeha players on the field.

The teams were as follow:— Wairarapa.—Mrs. Halsberg; Misses M. Morris and B. Manihera; M. Thompson, R. Ngatuere, and H. Rangi; M. Henri, T. Hemi, T. Te Tau, S. Manihera, and Q. Te Tnu. Wellington.—Miss B. Parata; Misses T. M'Donnell and H. Walker: Misses W. Mitchell, 11. Tehiko, and R.'McDonnell; Misses W. Katene, H. Wineera, L. Smallman, K. Winiata, and K. Parata. • At half-time the score was 1-all, Miss Wineera having netted for Wellington and Miss Q. Te Tau for Wairarapa. Wellington were first to score in the second spell from the stick of Miss Wiuiuta, who was playing an attractive game. The visitors wera forced to defend strenuously for some time, but eventually broke away, Miss T. Te Tau sending in an angle shot from the edge of the circle. Wellington returned to the attack, but the visiting goalkeeper was sound, and with only a minute to go Wairarapa took the offensive, Miss T. Te Tau scoring her second goal from a melee just outside the goalmouth. Wairarapa 3, Wellington 2. Mr. 0. Caeey was the referee.
