THE "SOUND AND SILENT."
During the change-over from the silent cinema to the "talkies," the management of a group of these entertainment halls had statistics prepared of: the relative attendances at those piaeds already converted and those still remaining "silent," and the figures of a/.f'&at night"'receipts a^ the largest "soujid" picture-theatre in the group Tvill serve the purposes of a useful problem.1 The prices were fixed on an usually- low: scale, and two thousand persons paid for admission to the three seetioiis of the "house," "A," "B," aha "C,".the takings being one hun(l red "and"thirty-five pounds. In part """■B:". thero were live seats occupied ,for "every-one in "A, "while in the lowestpriced "section, " C," fourteen paid for seats:for every five in "B." This is tho only information available to'tho leader, butf he will jio doubt find it sufficient, to discover the prices of similar seats at a. suburban "silent theatre" if those at.tho "talkies" were thirtythree and a third per cent, higher.
