ELECTION PROPAGANDA.
The subject of election propaganda and catch cries was introduced into the Financial Debate by Mr. C. H. Clinkard (United, Botorua) in the House of Bepresentatives yesterday afternoon. After stating that the utterances of the late Prime Minister in respect of the borrowing of £70,000,000 had been distorted more than any other statement, ho drew a full-page newspaper advertisement from his desk and began to read, "God Save the King," "Put in the Man Who Gets Things Done." Beform members: "Hear, hear!" Mr. D. Jones (Beform, Mid-Canter-bury): "Don't you believe in that?" Mr. Clinkard (looking round for Mr. Coates, who was seated talking to Mr. Savage in the front Labour benches): "By whose authority was this printed? Is the right honourable gentleman here?" Mr. J. O'Brien (Labour, Westland): "He has joined the Labour Party." Mr. Clinkard: "Listen to this, 'Wrap the flag around me, boys.' I do not say that the right honourable gentleman did not do his duty at the Front, but he did it in common with thousands of other boys. This side of the House is just as loyal as any other side. Did the right honourable: member authorise these statements?',' Beform member: "Keep the paper still—we can't soe it." Mr. Clinkard: "I want the right honourable gentleman to explain it. Was he responsible for it? I do not think he was, because it was a discreditable publication to put out. We on this side of the House were not responsible for all the statements of the last election. This same man who put this out made similar statements for us."
