The Mayor, Mr. G. A. Troup, and Mrs. Troup left Wellington to-day by ear on a brief visit to Hunterville.
Mr. C. W. Jansen, a : retired Civil servant, died at his residence at llowick at the ago of GO, reports "The Post's" Auckland correspondent.. Mr. Jiidki'u was born in. As a young man he was a mail agent between Palnierston North and WoodvilJc, and;:-was a well-known representative, footballer. After spending several, years in. ...the Thames Post Office, ho was Postmaster at Mangaweka, ColHngwood, Parnell-, Takapuna, and Onehunga in succession. On his retirement he went to .live-.in. llowick. Throughout his life..-■ Mr, M'jinsen took a. lively interest in''sport. The death o.eeurrcd Jecetitly at Wellington, in Ms 70th year, of Mr. Frederick George Clarke, a well-known master butcher. A native of Hampshire, England, the late Mr. Clarke had resided in 'Wellington for 35 years. He was for many years head shopman to the Gear Meat Company, and of later, years manager of the Te Aro Meat Co, He was an ardent lover of animals, aa& waa for a long period an active offieiml and prominent exhibitor in the Wellington Kennel Club. Mr. Clarka •»- ,ioyed the esteem of a largo circle of friends, and was highly respected' for his benevolence and uprightness . of character. He is survived by his widow and daughter, Mrs. P. P. Hodge, and two sons, Messrs. H. F. Clarke, chemist, 6f Island Bay, and W, F. Clarke,of the Harbour Board staff. The Bey.
