LONDON, 4th August.
Miss Amy Johnson arrived at Croy. don Aerodrome shortly after 9 o'clock in the evening in the City of Glasgow, piloted.by Captain Youell, from Vienna. The big machine battled with stiff winds and rainstorms throughout the journey, and was forced to refuel, at Brussels, postponing the arrival nearly; ttiree hours. Seven light 'planes met tho City of Glasgow a mile from the shore and escorted her to Croydon. Tha aerodrome was surrounded by thousands, who waited patiently to welcome the' intrepid -aviatvix. Thousands morn lined the nino-mile route to London. On the landing ground was a platform on which were gathered 200 favoured persons, including Amy's, jiarents, her sisters Molly and Betty, and many relatives. The giant 'plane came down, lightly and taxied slowly towards the platform. The door of the fuselage opened, and the slim figure of Amy, hatless, with her brown hair shining, stood there. For a second she waited breath - less, amazed by the gigantic shout of welcome, and then leaped out and ran to meet her mother, who, with her father and-sisters advancing, nearly smothered' her with kisses.
; Lord Thomson, Air Minister, Miss Margaret Bondfield, Minister of Labour, Sir Sefton Bianeker, Director of Civil Aviation, Sir Charles Wakefield, Mfr. F. Montague, TJnder-Secretary for Air, and a host of others,'pressed forward to offer congratulations. The escorting cars contained Miss Winifredßrown, tho King's Cup winner, Miss Marjorie Foster, the King's Prize winner, Miss Ivy Ha.wke, the Channel swimmer, Mrs. Victor Bruee, the motorist, and Miss Diana Fishwick, the golf champion.
