The Minister of Education (the Hon. 11. Atmorc) will pay an official visit to Wellington College at 9 o'clock tomorrow morning.

A soldier in the Now ZeaTnnd Forces at the age of 18, Edward Ch;irle:> Meredith, died at New Plymouth on Sunclay at the age of 84, states n Press Association message. It was . thn murtler of his father and brother by the Maoris on 14th July, 186-1, near Drury, which began i'-\e Waikato war. After the murder, Mr. Meredith transferred to Wanganui, joining the Native contingent under Colonel M'Doimell as colour-sergeant in 1865. . Ho was present at the taking of Wevaroa, Pipiriki, and Opotiki. His company fought at Tuvu and. Turumokai, where . Colonel Hassard was killed. On rations for three da'ysj the troops jnade a ten days' march to New -Plymouth. Waikoko was captured, and the troops returned to Wanganui. After hostilities cease,d Mr. Meredith took up land at Patea. He ended his military career as
sergeant-major of the Hnwera Volunteers. . •
At the monthly meeting of 2 SIA Church Service Advisory Committee, held to-day, feeling reference was made to the death of the late Reverend F. B. Harry, who represented the Baptist Denomination on the committee. The Rev. C. V. Rooko, of St. Thomas's Anglican Church, chairman of the committee, mado an eloquent tribute to the deceased minister, and eulogised his work as, a preacher of the Gospel and as a member of the committee. The messages ha had broadcast had reached and had been appreciated by many thousands of listeners, not only in the Dominion, but in the islands of the Pacific and even, more distant lands. Mr. Rooke's tribute was endorsed by the Rev. R. J. Howie, of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, and by the Rev. T. R. Richards, of Taranald Street Methodist Church. It was unanimously resolved to send a letter expressing the, committee's sincere condolence to the-widow and family, and a similar communication to ths deacons of the Vivian Street Baptist Church.
