WHANGAREI, This Day

After a conference with the. North Auckland Counties' Association, Mr. Tuke Webb, as president, forwarded a letter of protest to the Bight Hon. J. G. Coates and Messrs. Murdoch, Mason,and Harris, members. . of Parliament, concerning tho Budget proposals to curtail the funds of the Main Highways Board. The letter summarises the prospective handicaps placed upon county -councils, and concludes: "The Northern Counties' Association views tho proposals in question with no small degree of consternation, and through Hi© northern representatives in Parliament desires to voice its disapproval of the proposal designed to divert revenues of the Highways Board into other channels. Your' active opposition to the proposals as outlined in the Budget is therefore urgently solicited."
