THE DUNEDIN OUTLOOK

(Special to "The Evening Post.")

DUNEDIN, This Day

Hector Leekie, lightweight champion of New Zealand, has been training solidly for the last month or two, and is now to be matched with the American Lou Bloom at Blenheim on 13th August. Hector Leckie is now trained by Archie Leckie,' Johnny Leckie's old mentor, who reports that his charge is. in good form. If he.shows up in the forthcoming bout Hector Leckie should, not want for matches in the very near future' with the number of importations at present in the country. Beg. Trowern's disqualification has been disastrous from the Otago Association's point of view, for it has loft the association, without a home product

' stack up against sonve of tho importations it was aWe to command. "Wully. Hancock is willing to tome across under engagement to the Otago Association again, and Jack Carroll, another former holder of the Australian welter title,1 has also sought matches in Dunedin. Trowern appears to have been rather harshly treated, and in inflicting so severe a penalty upon him the New Zealand Council has also penalised quite a few associations which are desirous of making use of his services.

It does not seem as if, Johnny Leckic is keen to appear in Dunedin at the present time, despite the fact that it was the Otago Boxing Association which gave him his initial opportunities to make good at ,the game. It was known that Sarron was willing to meet Leckie here, but when approached Leckie said that he could not fight before August, but that he was willing to' fight hero then. A dato in August was offered Leckie, out no further word was received'from the New Zealand featherweight champion, and then it became known that he and Sarron had been matched at Palmerston North.
