ALARM ON WEST COAST
RUSH INTO THE STREETS

WESTPOET, 25th July
. Preceded by a terrific storm, Westport experienced at 8.42 this evening the biggest earthquake since -last Christmas. People rushed from their homes into the streets. So far as can bo gathered no damage of consequence .occurred.
OEEYMOTJTII, 23th July
A very sharp shock was experienced here. The direction was froi. the north. Thoro was no damage, but considerable alarm was occasioned.
A message received by tho Secretary jof the P. and T. Department (Mr. G. M'Namara) from the Chief Postmaster |at Westport confirmed the shakes at "Wcstport and Greymoutli, and added that the shako was also felt at Karamea. The intensity of tho shake, it was added, 'was six on the Eossi Fore! scale.
