THE SPANISH LANGUAGE
On Thursday evening the sixth: annual meeting of the "Asoeiacion, Argentina-Neo Zelandesa" was held at the Chamber of Commerce Hall. There was a large attendance of members. During the evening general business,was transacted, and the following bfiipers for the year were elected:—Patron, Mr. E.,8. Baldwin, Vice-Consul for the Argentine; president, Mr.■ W. T. Goodwin;-hon. secretary, Mr. K. J. Atkinson; treasurer, Mr. A. M. Goodwin; members of the committee of management, Miss Nally, Messrs. ,J. P. JSicoll, Burke, and Jones; auditor, Mr. H. E. Napier. ' . , It was resolved to hold the weekly meetings on Thursday evenings, and that th« study of the Castillian languaga be _ an essential portion of the club's activities. For this purpose a set of Spanish gramophone records has been obtained. A programme of play readings was drawn up for translation, anil a systematic grounding course for beginners 'was approved. Tho president outlined,;-for the benefit of, newly enrolled, members, the^importance of and the opportunities afforded by a knowledge o£ Spanish, which, a* stated, is tho tongue- of nineteen nations embracing a population of approximate!*-. a hundred millions.
