Within quite a short .time a. eollcgo for women police is to be opened. This is to be as well Equipped as the one which, was recently proposed for men police by the Home Secretary. The- preliminary training I period will last six or nine months, *ad at the end of this time successful candidates will have passed the equivalent of the London matriculation standard in general education, and will, in addis j tion, have been • instructed in.- police duties. Then they will start to'specjal--1 ist in languages and in different branches of detective work- A'number jof women are to be trained as motor ' mechanics and drive.-s for special eer- ! vice with flying squad officers, and it |is al«o hoped that women will prove particularly useful in the criminal investigation department. Special expense and dress allowances' are to be given to women detectives, and they must bo thoroughly familiar with West ' End life, to enable them to move freely !in all classes of society. It should be I very interesting work, arid it is expected that, many women will take advanI tage of it, since it opens up quite new j prospects, and should provide ear«er» , which could never in any way b« dsI suribed as monotonous.
