CITY OBSERVATORY.
Of late the weather has been very acb? verse for the Wellington City Observatory; to open for the public on Saturday nights. Should conditions be suitable the Observatory will be open this evening from 7.30 to 9 o'clock, when the subject for the evening will be "Types of Stars," and the telescope will be used to supplement the lecture. The telescope is a photo-visual refractor of 9 inches diameters and is perhaps the best equipped telescope in New Zealand. The powers range from a magnification of 50 to' about 900 under good observing conditions, and the instrument has proved itself very capable in resolving difficult objects such as double stars, and star clusters, of which Omega Centauri is a type. It is also capable of making very fine'photographs, and recently photographs of the sun have, been taken with, it, and also a programme has been commenced for photographing stellar objects. Visitors will find the Observatory in Kelburn, and illuminated signs will direct them after leaving the Kelburn cable car* A sindl charge is made for admission.
