ROYAL NEEDLEWORK

Before the Queen left London in April she paid a visit to the' Royal School of Art Needlework, says a London writer. She takes a special interest in this school, and often goes there quite informally, touring the differeut rooms and examining the work which is being done by the girls. This work is said to rival anything that is done in Paris, and many of the girls have graduatod to tho school from the needlework classes of London's elementary schools. The Queen and the Duchess of York give frequent orders for lingerio to the school, and it is the proud boast of tho authorities that only English materials are used, the crepes de chine, and ninons and silks come from British looms, and all tho laces come from Nottingham. The Queen is especially pleased about this, for she has done more than anyone else to bring Nottingham laces into favour again, and when she visited the school tho other day she was very interested to .see tho Nottingham lace negligees and coatees which were being made for the trousseau of one society bride. Since the new year, the school

has had twelve orders for trousseaux. The Queen saw one trousseau which was just being completed, and commented on the colourfulness of modern lingerie. The bride had-chosen pyjamas of printed crepe do chine in shades of green and yellow and peach, together with nightgowns-.in*'blue and' primrose Shades. ' -:
