MENTION AT AUCKLAND
NEGOTIATIONS IN HAND (By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") AUCKLAND, This Day. Information has been received from Sydney of a meditated attack on the world's speed record next year by; Norman Smith on the Ninety Mile Beach. It is reported that the British Government is loaning an engine, one of ten constructed for the Schneider trophy race, on condition that only; Don Harkness, who will build the car, and Smith know its' interior dimensions and details. When the information, was referred to the secretary of the Auckland Automobile Association, he said that the association had been, in possession of-it for some time, although it was held to be confidential. Negotiations concerning the attempt^ however, had proceeded between the association and the Government^ The association was also in touch with the International Association of Automobile Clubs, and the Boyal Automobile* Club to ensure that the attempt on tha record was strictly in accordance with the international rules. Special electric' timing apparatus would be imported tor time the event.
