MINISTER'S STATEMENT
CABINET MUST DECIDE
NO HASTY DECISION
The report telegraphed from Auckland yesterday that the Public Works engineers had decided to concrete the whole of the headrace at Arapuni from the main dam to the spillway, and also to concrete the cliff and face of the fall below the spillway, and to construct a concrete flow at the base of the fall, was emphatically contradicted last night by the Minister of Public Works (the, Hon. W. B. Taverner). '' This statement is entirely unauthor- , ised,'' said Mr. Taverner. "As I indicated a few days ago; remedial measures can only be considered after complete investigation has been made and full expert information has been received by me. Up to the moment 'no auch proposal as the one mentioned has ■been supplied to me. In any case it would be a matter for Cabinet to decide what expenditure should, be authorised. - "It is not my intention to make any hasty decision iv regard to the matter. The problem is one presenting such extraordinary conditions that the fullest possible information will be required before anything is done."
