WANGANUI, This Day.

Jerry Hokopaura, a Maori, was fined £25 for being in a state of intoxication iv charge of a motor-car which was involved in an accident at Maxwell on lath April; £10 for negligent driving, and £5 for using offensive language. His licence was cancelled, and is not to be renewed for three years. The Magistrate (Mr. Salmon) said that the defendant, in statting that he had had no liquor that day, only medicine for his heart, had committed gross perjury, and instructed the police to make further investigations regarding the liquor ho had had that day, and to proceed further if necessary.
