FURTHER TAXATION CERTAIN

(By Telegraph.—i'resß Association.)

MASTERTON, 7th. June.

The Hon. E. A. Hansom was met and welcomed by tho Mayor and representatives of the districts at a gathering to-day. The Minister was sympathetic, but non-cominit'.al, on the subject of the ltimutaka deviation.

Regarding the report that the Wairai'apa Aero Club was to be deprived under tho Government's economy campaign "of its promised subsidy, Mr. Ransom stated that he had been "in touch with the Hon. J. G. Cobbe, Minister of Defence, who had tola him that the "Wairarapa Club would get the amount it had been promised.

Touching on general polities, M.T. Hansom said he did not think that a minority Government was badly placed 'o deal with the serious financial and othci- problems now raised. It must bring down legislative proposals because it could not hope otherwise to get the support of a majority in the IWse. Extra taxation was inevitable. Cabinet would bring down proposals it considered to be demanded in the interests of the country, regardless of the effect on the fortunes of its own party.

The Minister said that the present unemployment relief works were opening up new areas of. settlement, and that more could bo done on these lines. A permanent remedy for unemployment was to bring idlo or partly-used lands into full use and occupation.
