BACKWARD BUSINESS
"The opinion that business is always good in Petone must not bo taken too seriously," said a member of the executive at a meeting of the Petone Chamber of Commerce this week. lie gave the following statistics as to business changes in Jackson street, west of the Post Office, during the last twelve months: Given up business, 19; changed hands, 12; transferred to other sites, 8; new businesses started, 7; empty shops, 12. With regard to Jackson stroet east of the Post Office, he said that "businesses were liko shadows—ever coming and going."
