A GROWING EVIL
DRINKING BY WOMEN
WARNING TO LICENSEES

When the chairman of the Auckland Licensing Committee to-day remarked that the police reports on the hotels contained reference to drinking by women, Sub-Inspector Lander said there was nothing to show that young women were frequenting hotels. He had had the convictions for a yeav analysed, and only one woman under 21 had been convicted. The chairman said there was no doubt it was a growing evil. A general prohibition of the supply of liquor to women might not have public support, but if tho committee were informed that any hotel made a special business of supplying women it would deal with the licensee.
