MISS JOHNSON'S LUCK
BAD CRASH AT BRISBANE
HEESELF UNINJURED
British Official Wireless. (Received 30th May, noon.)
BUGBY, 29th May.
After flying from Charleville Misi Amy Johnson crashed when landing at Brisbane to-day, but she herself escaped without injury. Both wings of her machine wore smashed and the propellor was snapped off altogether, but the cockpit and undercarriage were' un> d-imagcd.
Miss Johnson escaped entirely uninjured from her crash. It would appear that as she was about to alight she feared that she would overrun the landing ground and therefore restarted the engine, intending to ascend and ap« proaeh the ground afresh. In doing so she struck a wire fence on the boundary of tho ground and the machine dived into a field of standing millet, turning almost 'completely over, and smashing the propellor and win "a.
A great crowd of anxious spectators raced to her help and arrived to find Miss Johnson standing by the machine calmly combing her hair, having suffered nothing more than a shaking. She entered a motor-car which took her to the hangar on the aerodrome. Although at first somewhat shaken, she soon recovered. She then proceeded through a huge crowd to the Town Hall, receiving a rapturous reception. Mechanics expect to be able to repair her wonderful little Moth machine to enable her to continue the flight to Sydney. ■ ' • .
The British Broadcasting Corporation announces that, if conditions are favourable, a talk by Miss Johnson on her flight from England to Australia will be relayed from Brisbane to all British stations at about 9 o'clock to-: night.
