THE MARLBOROUGH DISTRICT

BLENHEIM, 29 th May. The Conciliation Council sat here to consider the building trades award for the Marlborough industrial district. The proposals embraced all branches of the building trade, including plumbers, electricians,' painters, and pther tradesmen. The negotiations involved protracted, discussions.

The outcome of the proceedings was that all points in dispute were settled to the satisfaction of all parties with the exception of tho matter of wages. An arrangement was arrived at for the parties to / consider the question, of wages further in private, and it is understood that, there is every possibility of agreement being . reached without recourse to the intervention of tho Arbitration Court. -

When an understanding is arrived at the whole matter will be referred to the Arbitration Court for the purpose of the formal making of an award.

The Conciliation Commissioner (Mr. P. Halley) presided, and Mr. C. G. Camp, of tho New Zealand Employers' Federation, with Messrs. B. V. Bythell, A. Wanden, and J .A. Leslie, represented tho employers, and Mr. B. White, with Messrs. G. Saul and J. Cruickshank,: repr'psqritpfl the workers.
