SOCCER FOR SCHOOLS

"NO KECOGNISED PLACE"

(By Telegraph.)

(Special to "The Evening Post.")

DUNEDIN, This Day

An eclio of a recent controversy concerning the alleged barring of Training College students from playing Association football was heard at the monthly meeting of the Otago Education Board. The Otago Football Association sent the board a copy of a letter sent by it to the Minister of Education. The letter stated that the following resolution had been carried: "That the matter be reported to the Minister direct, calling upon him to see that young teachers are set a better example of freedom in the matter ,i games in this free country, than that set by the principal of the Dunedin Training College, in attempting to block r Soccer." Commenting on this letter, th; principal of the college, Mr. Moore, wrote stating that sports at the college were being run on the same lines this year, as in previous ye .rs. So far as he kne\. Association football had never found a place among the recognised games of the college or of any training college or university in New Zealand. There was practically no demand among students for Soccer. The loyalty expected from the students was that inculcated at every school and college. Those capable of making any contribution to recognised college activities were expected to do so. Tho writer added that he resented the unprincipled and unsportsmanlike attempts of the Otago Football Association to weaken that loyalty. " Mr. Moore'a reply was endorsed by the board. ,__—__—
