Reference was made with regret iv the annual report of the Wellington Volunteer Fire Police to the deaths of Messrs. Walter Lange and Or. Brickley, both of whom had a large number of years of service to their credit.

News has been received, in:. Nelson by the- parents of Mr. E< E. D. Eves, who left New .Zealand some four years ago to obtain mercantile expenenee in Melbourne, that their son at tho"'-recent examinations at the Federation Institute secured first place-for-Victoria and second place for Australia in the legal section and second.'place ;(a tie) in. Victoria for both mercantile- and company law. Last year Mr. Eves secured second place in Victoria for.,, bookkeeping and third placo in Australia for the same subject.
