LONDON, 26th May

The untrustworthiness of tho coolies over the Kang and Margin passes ultimately forced the Kinehinjunga expedition to abandon tho journey and return to tho base camp, states Colonel Tobin.

Colonel Tobin, who has returned to Darjeeling, is at present engaged in paying off 300 of tho 400 porters originally taken. The expedition, he states, has been delayed by the worst weather yet experienced.

A message published on Saturday stated that tho first attempt' of the expedition to reach the first terrace on Kincbirijunga and establish camp No. 3 had ended in disaster, an avaiancho nearly overwhelming the. party and killing one of the porters. The' message added that the expedition had decided to. abandon the proposed route ill favour of a longer and unexplored one.
