ELEVATING EFFECT

COLLEGE MEMORIAL HALL-

.4<<We feel that our daily meeting in tho Memorial Hall has an effec-t upon' the general life of.tho school that would not- be present had wo continued to meet in the sarao old way as two divisions of tho school in smaller halls," said the Principal of Wellington College (Mr. W. A. Armour) at the annual meeting of the College Old Boys' Association last evening. ' Tho chairman (Colonel K. St. J. Bccrc, D.5.0.) said that .a sum of money was being expended to provide flags for tho brass memorial tablets in the hall. Mr. Williams asked whether,an effort had been made to obtain flags, that had been used in the war. Colonel Beqre said that tho committee had done its utmost to procure flags that had been used on th". battlefields, but without success, although Colonel Powles had presented one. In stating that the flags would add to the- appearance of the hall, Dr. J. S. Elliott said he thought that if the association had done" nothing else tho part it had played in the erection of the hall justified its existence. Their meeting in that magnificent hall, -he. thought, must have •an elevating- effect upon the boys of the school. They were able to'have the feeling that they were not beginning, but were one with tho past of the school, in'which' they, as old boys, were proud. , Mr. Armour said that created iia ; the hall was an atmosphere that boys pass- j ing through the school would carry with them throughout their lives.V . :
