' ■ The president intimated that Their lixcellcueies the Uovernor-Genclal and Lady Bledisloc had accepted the invitation of the .committee■ to become patron and patroness bE the society. Morris Duukley; honorary treasurer, Mr. K. 'B. Pope; committee, Mis? Stocker, Messrs. 0. N-.. Gillespie, J. BaldYin, and J. Herd. Commenting on the past season s productions by the society, the annual report remarks:— "\ ' "The standard of production and the performance of all plays was consistently good, and once again it may be said that there is reason to believe that the work of the society is becoming more popular, and the productions widely appreciated. it will be more and more apparent that there is a growing field for a repertory theatre, owing to the fact that during the past year two of the most important theatrical proprietary concerns in Now Zealand have had their theatres altered to accommodate 'talking pictures,' and, as a consequence, there have been very few tbeatricajj. companies on tour." The membership, it was stated, is now 324, an increase of 79 over .the previous year's figures. Reference is made in the report to the valuable services rendered by Mr. Harison Cook as producer and director, to Mr. W. S. Waucbop's success when be took over from Mr. Cook, and to the co-operative efforts of members of committees. . .
