The highest team score was made by W.W.M.C. team. Their 472 (average 07.43) is highly commendable, and equals last year's winners of the C Grade Shield when shooting at their best, namely, P.W.M.C. in the tenth round. As the W.W.M.C. C Grade team of last season was runner-up to the chninplon team,, and as M of its. C Grade competitors averaged 04.14, their chance of success this year is very bright indeed. ' The highest combined score of 972 was that in the match between the W.W.M.C. and the P.W.M.C. teams. JUfleman Bird achieved the honour ot scoring the only possible in this round. Ho is an excellent billiard player, but his experience with tho modern target rlflo lias been' merely a few practice shoots. Ho found Ills mark, however, in a manner which deserves heartiest congratulations and the best wishes for the future. AOTEA CLUB. The shoot-oft la tho B Grade first series was flrad on Wednesday.evening last, and resulted: J. Bell 1, W. Scanbary 2. Mrs. P. Boon, H. Frankland, and XV. J. H. Haa/sc. with two 69's apiece. The first possible In Inter-club matches was made by W. J. H. Huase against Hie Harbour Board team. In tlie first round of the inter-i-lub matches Imth the A Grade and the B Grade teams won their matches. PUBLIC SERVICE CLUB. Attendances at tho Public Service Club rango are still well maintained, and members are showing tht keenest enthusiasm. The standard of shooting of the new members continues to' improve, and the club is almost certain to be very well represented in all grades. It is unfortunate, however, that although a number of new lady members has been gained, they are mostly new to the sport. Tlieir shootj nß shows steady improvement, but the club sadly needs Misses Ellison and Cave, both of whom were excellent shots, and capable of malting the ladles' championship more interesting than it promises to be. At tho moment, it appears to be almost a gift for Mrs. Potts. Amongst the men some fine performances have been registered. Mr. Nicholson has run his tally of possibles well into double figures, while Mr Croxton Is also hitting them very hard. Messrs. Gibson, Hcndry, Slade, Bromley, Cook, and Miller are shooting particularly well and, jiot to bo outdone. Mr. Higginson has staged a comeback. This latter member has exerted-him-self to some purpose this season, and is mainly responsible for quite a large number of new shots from the Post and Telegraph DepartThe club competitions are now well under was' a commencement- having been made on Ist May The championship this year has been rut to 18 shots, all of which count, but is, as in the past, divided into three "Quarters" of i. shoots each, trophies being given at the end i of each quarter for gun and handicaps scores, iggregates at this stage-would not be of any ( great interest to readers^ but it may be stat- . rd that theyfindicate that, while the present . champion, Sir. Croxton, is giving ground to iiy one, the event is coins to be very open. I In regard to competition shoots, there arc ill" least two rules with which range officers i

and competitors alike-should make themselves well acquainted. Both arc very important, but seem to have been disregarded by some, if reports be- true. The first Is that no shoot shall count for competition purposes unless It is so nominated beforehand, and that means before the optional sighter has gone. The second rule Is equally important; It says that no shot on any competition target may be guaged except'by tho officer appointed for the purpose, who. this year, is the club captain, Mr. Gibson. It is only fair that both rules be strictly adhered to. ,
