Nine other smashes occurred in New Plymouth and district during the weekend. One cause was the heavy motor traffic occasioned by the match between the British visiting Bugby team and Taranaki.

A light oar driven by D. C. Candish, and a heavier one driven by J. H. Moody, collided at an intersection. The light car landed upside down on a footpath, and the two occupants, with great good fortune, escaped with only slight cuts. A two-year-old child, Lester Gates, received severe head injuries in a collision at Tariki. » He is in Hospital, but improving. In the remaining cases the injuries were slight. A heavy car belonging to F. P. Grundy was removed from a street in front of his garage, and late last night was found on the main soutli road 15 miles away completely, burned.
