THEFT OF CATTLE

SENTENCE

WHANGAREI, 22nd May
Pleading guilty to the theft iof four heifers iand two steers,,o£ a total value of £47, Arthur Brown, 29 years of age, was to-day committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. The stolon animals were the property of Ernest Maddren, ;of Maunu. '
The accused, in a statement, said he and a brother looked after the stock on the farm of Maddren, a nearby farmer, while the latter was in hospital. One morning he found six animals owned by Maddren on the roadside. He drove them to Whakapara, had them dipped, and trucked to WestficJd. When taxed with. the theft the accused immediately confessed to the police.
